Recovery After Amputation: GMKA Launches Educational Video Series for Patients and Rehabilitation Professionals

The full-scale war in Ukraine has led to a sharp increase in the number of people with amputated limbs. Effective recovery requires high-quality rehabilitation and mastery of essential skills. In response, the Global Medical Knowledge Alliance (GMKA) has launched an educational video series titled ‘Prosthetics: Recovery and Reintegration after Amputation,’ consisting of 18 episodes designed to support those affected.
This video series offers essential knowledge and practical skills for patients and rehabilitation professionals, covering all aspects of amputation recovery—from initial treatment and prosthesis adaptation to advanced skills such as running with a prosthesis.

Expert Instructions

Leading the instructional content is David Lawrence, MSPT, AT-Ret, a globally recognized expert in rehabilitation and education. He is the Founder and CEO of The Mission Gait Foundation and the Owner of Lawrence Rehabilitation – The Gait Center. Dr. Lawrence treats patients and teaches international courses on knee, hip, and foot pathologies, amputation recovery, and adaptive sports.

Mission and Impact for Ukraine

Our mission is to enhance patient outcomes by providing high-quality educational resources for rehabilitation professionals and amputees. This initiative is especially crucial in Ukraine, where the increase in amputations has intensified the need for specialized rehabilitation resources. Through these videos, GMKA aims to improve the recovery process and overall quality of life for those with amputations.

Project Support and Partnerships

This project was made possible through GMKA’s partnership with Mission Gait, whose support and expertise were instrumental. Special thanks go to Ken Witkowich for his outstanding collaboration and support. Translation services were provided by GMKA colleagues.

Engagement and Future Goals

We invite rehabilitation professionals from across Ukraine to participate in this significant initiative designed to support the recovery journey of individuals with amputations.
